Why is a comprehensive eye examination important?

Glaucoma is a serious eye condition that can lead to irreversible vision loss if not detected and treated early. It often presents no symptoms until significant damage has occurred.

A thorough check of the front, back and intraocular pressure of your eye can detect for eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataract, age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

What to expect during the advanced glaucoma screening:

Full comprehensive eye examination includes the following:

  • History Taking & Visual Acuity Test: Measures sharpness of vision.
  • Refraction and Vision Assessment: Determines type & degree of refractive error.
  • Slit Lamp Exam: Examines the front part of the eye for signs of dry eyes, cataracts, and contact lens-related issues.
  • Dilation: Allows more light to enter the eye for a wider field of view.
  • Fundus Examination: Assesses the macula, retina, and optic nerve head for conditions like retinal tears, detachment, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Humphrey Visual Field (HVF) Test: Checks for vision loss and blind spots, often indicative of glaucoma.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Scan: Provides detailed images of the retina and optic nerve to detect early signs of glaucoma.
  • Corneal Pachymetry: Measures the thickness of the cornea, which is a key factor in accurately assessing intraocular pressure.
