What to expect during a comprehensive eye examination
A comprehensive eye examination by a qualified optometrist includes the following:
- History Taking and Visual Acuity Test: Measures the sharpness of your vision.
- Refraction: Determines the type and degree of refractive error, providing your prescription for spectacles or contact lenses.
- Slit Lamp Exam: Examines the anterior part of the eye for signs of dry eyes, growths, tumors, cataracts, and contact lens-related issues.
- Retinal Imaging: Assesses the condition of the macula, retina, and optic nerve head. Detects conditions like retinal tears, detachment, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
- Eye Pressure Check: Detects conditions such as glaucoma by measuring your eye pressure.
- Assessment & Management: Includes an optometrist consultation and referrals if necessary.
